LMPGS Response

The main point of this section is explaining Patagonia’s marketing techniques. They emphasis a few details that they feel are unique to their company and what contribute to their success. They say that their main goal is to be simple and real. They also stress the quality of their products and how they are the best in the business. They explain that they offer their products to pro athletes who wear it and give critique back to them. This shows their dedication to their company and more importantly to their customers who they want to provide the best equipment possible to.

One thing that stood out to me and what I thought was interesting was how much they value environmental issues and want to spread what they believe is a “philosophy of life” in which “the basic tenets of that philosophy are a deep appreciation for the environment and a strong motivation to help solve the environmental crisis”. The foundation of their company was built on the outdoors, nature, and exploration so it would make sense they value the environment and keeping it clean. By making their products sustainable and environment friendly, they also gain a whole group of supporters and potential customers that help their business grow. This helps their marketing and branding that is advertised to consumers around the world.

One thing that was mentioned in the “Promotion” section that I agree with is when the author says “It’s easy to promote a game changing product because there is no competition and there are great stories to tell”. I agree with this statement because products that Patagonia produce are revolutionary, simple, and sustainable, which is wildly different than other brands and companies that mainly produce products for profit and personal gain. Due to their unique advertisement and brand, they can easily sell products and have credibility in the field because they are experienced athletes themselves and assume their customers are too.
